Miff
Happily now passed MOT but failed on a rather odd point. The testers weren't happy that the various switches and guages were not clearly labelled "indicator" "horn" and so on. Didn't do an emissions test though! stephen grant
That's rather odd. Anyone ever seen a Caterham with the switches labelled? I'd take it somewhere else for the retest if I were you.... stephen
Alan L
I have seen couple of cars with labelled switches but the majority without. Mines never had labels and been MOTed without problem the last few years. Maybe this could be age related. IE newer cars must have some sort of marking as to what the switches do. May car is a 1991. Mark Durrant
Very odd you would have thought that this would have been raised at an SVA test if it was a real issue and I suspect that this is just the local MOT testers opinion and not that of the 'ministry'. Support Team Shaun_E Posted July 28, 2005 Support Team Share Posted July 28, 2005 I can't see anything in the MOT manual that requires this. Yellow SL #
Myles
Go back and ask them if you need to label the pedals and steering-wheel too... Project Scope-Creep is live... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
stephen grant
Ever sat in a 1st generation TVR griffith? Even the factory didn't know what half the buttons did. It's just a random hodge-podge of identical buttons scattered across the dash. Seems all a bit odd stephen Edited by - stephen grant on 28 Jul 2005 13:52:
Miff
couldn't be too arse'd to quibble since they passed the emissions test. For info, they required the following to be labelled with the wording as shown: Indicator: Indicator Horn: Horn Head lamp: 'Main' below, 'dip' above Headlamp flasher: 'Flash' All very weird. Anyway have taken off the labels (old-fashioned dymo tape) and kept them for reference for next year (just in case I can't remember!) Interestingly didn't require the big red starter button to be labelled?
Alex Wong1697456877
My BMW has none of those labels? I'm sure no modern cars do. Have you seen inside a new Merc? Lord knows what all those buttons do. Next they'll be wanting the right pedal labled "throttle"! Edited by - Alex Wong on 28 Jul 2005 16:53:
Mark Piper
up their own 🙆🏻 perhaps they'd like a brown tag tied to everything on the car a la Spike Milligan's Q series 😬
Wrightpayne
Miff, just use the garage in Stoney Stanton next time - they do the MOTs for Caterham Midlands. No labels on my switches Ian

susser
Next time you go in, have everthing labelled, if you can afford to take the pi55. Steering wheel labelled Left/Right with arrows etc. I can't remember when I heard of anything so daft; When you are driving do you look at the controls to see what they do ? I don't think so. Now if you were providing the car as a device under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations that would be another matter altogether,,,,, that would be another matter that would be another matter that would be another matter that would be another matter etc
alicat
Alex BMW's do not have labels for indicators as they have none fitted 😬 😬 Alicat
charlie_pank
My guess that this is just because they couldn't be arsed to figure out what each switch was supposed to do.
susser
BMW indicators all have an intermittent fault; First they work, then they don't, then they do, etc, etc 😬
Tim_H
BMW's do not have labels for indicators as they have none fitted oh yes they do, they just don't work, - as in this 'genuine' BMW advert on sniffpetrol 2/3 of the way down the page.here Tim (L7 EVN - on the upgradealator)
Alex Wong1697456877
In all seriousness, the new BMW indicator stalk is a baffling item - being an electronic switch rather than a mechanical one. Anybody who has a new 5 series will know what I mean. If you try to cancel it and catch it just after it has self cancelled, it flashes the other way, then the original way again when you try again etc. No wonder BMW drivers don't indicate!! It's too stressful!
susser
The same can be said for the Vectra, I have to use them for work travel and we all say the same about the poxy indicators.
