Compact HRB - Urgent help required!

Paul Gibb

Recommended Posts

Either tonight or tomorrow evening I have to change the piston of my compact hrb to accomodate a new release bearing. I think I have all the necessary bits to hand (new piston, seals, bearing & silicone grease) but have never done the job before.

I am particularly concerned that I may damage the seals during reassembly.

Any advice from those who have done this would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Paul

I assume you mean the clutch slave cylinder that is integral in the belltank. I have done a few of these the only difficulty is getting the inner seal into the bore as the square outside edge of the seal has to be compressed in order to get the seal and piston into the bore, I cut a piece of ali coke can to make a sleeve that would hold the seal outer edge down whilst entering the bore. You have to pay cafefull attention to removing any sharp edges or burs or these will damage the seal. Also coat the seals with silicon grease and refill the system with silicon brake fluid this will act as a lubricant and prevent the seals from sticking to the bore when running at oil/engine temps. a tricky little job have patiance.
