NigelR
I have a 2004 ex Academy car with badly ridged rear disks. Please can someone tell me the best source to replace these and how much they might cost? (Partco?) I would also be very interested in the same info for the front disks. Planning to fit Pagids pads I need to keep them same / similar spec for Supergrads / roadsport B Thanks for any help
Myles
The front and rear discs are actually identical... I'm given to understand that they are around £20 and 'widely' available... ...I went for grooved discs supplied via/from Hi Spec as I was upgrading my front calipers with their Ultralite 4s at the time - these were about £40 each (all prices + theft etc.) For Pagids, speak to John Frith/Freeth (hell... 'John') at Performance Braking, Monmouth - there's a tel no. in techtalk if you search on Pagid and Frith.... Project Scope-Creep is live... Myles
Oh - if it has to remain eligible for RSA/RSB, you'd better check the regs first... Project Scope-Creep is live... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
Mark Gregory
Nigel: I've fitted new front discs from Partco to my Supers car. Part number is NBD309, cost was £14.50 + VAT. I've not done the rears. You are not allowed 'groovy' discs in Grads, but pad material is 'free'. HTH, Mark
Mike Bees
Was that for the pair or each Mark? I guess it's each... Are the std. front & rear really the same? The rears look tiny (I've got AP fronts so nothing to compare with). Mike
Mark Gregory
Mike: Each! £7.25 each would be just toooooo cheap.

Are there good and bad versions of this i.e. some brake disks although they may look the same are not created equal. What brand should I go for? Mark Gregory
Nigel: Fair point about the quality/material etc. I've used NBD309 from National/Partco on the front of my Supers car & they've been fine. The old discs were pitted & shuddered like mad under hard braking. 😳 As for pads, it's down to personal choice & depth of pockets....... They ain't huge, but do the job. Project Scope-Creep is live... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
Hibster.
Widely available but not from Halfrauds last time I tried Supercheese R250 Caterham pictures here 😬
timbo
The std fronts are off a Triump Herald: 232 diam 9.6 mm thick 26.2 Height Bore 66.7mm PCD 87 See www.brake-eng.com for engineering specs I've just replaced my vented discs on ali bells with a solid one piece brembo as I prefer the solid disk for heat characteristics on road use. With the 4 pots I have, the closest fitting disc I could find is from a Mark 11 1.6 Escort (£23 a set). I have drilled new stud holes for the correct caterham PCD as the ford PCD does not fit the hub stud pattern. The Mark 11 discs are 247mm diam 12.7 thick and a hieght of 27.8 ... this suits my caliper. I'll let you know of improvements on road driving. NigelR
Thanks for the tips guys Any other comments re: best manufacturer for disk quality - at the moment looks like Partco? Finally just to make sure I have the other bits to do the job... I already have Pagids 114s/115s ready to go on once I get the disks dot 5 brake fluid to replace dot 4 (silly quesion - what's the recommended method for replacing fluid - complete drain or flush through? ) brake bleed pipe brake twirly thingy (can't remember the name) large socket 41mm - have to go and get one of these copper slip torque wrench to 200lbs - need to work this one out wisdom - might be running a bit low on this Nigel
rgrigsby
Ermm Dot 5 or Dot5.1? I could be wrong but Dot 4 and 5.1 are non-synthetic whilst Dot 5 is generally synthetic and you probably don't want to use that! In terms of replacement you'll need to drain the old stuff and then ideally flush through with .25ish litres of new stuff although I think quite a few people don't bother. Otherwise sounds like you have everything you need. Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
NigelR
Correction Dot 5.1 from Halfrauds - well spotted Rob how much Brake fluid does this thing hold?
Myles
You'll need a good couple of litres - it's on buy-two, get one free - so I'd go for that if the system has lost (or will lose) a lot. THe system only holds a litre and a bit (if that), but you put quite a lot through during bleeding. Project Scope-Creep is live... Myles
dot 5 brake fluid to replace dot 4 (silly quesion - what's the recommended method for replacing fluid - complete drain or flush through? ) ->Flush is easiest - all you really need assuming you're using compatible fluid, and it makes bleeding far easier. brake bleed pipe - I use a length of cheap plastic pipe from B&Q - sold by the meter - throw it away as often as you like. I discharge mine straight into either an old brake-fluid bottle or direct into an oil-change container. brake twirly thingy (can't remember the name) - piston wind-back tool. Made by Syckes-Pickavant (sic) - details on my site under maintenance/rear brakes large socket 41mm - have to go and get one of these copper slip torque wrench to 200lbs - need to work this one out - if this is for the rear big-nuts, common suggestions include just getting a long breaker-bar, weighing yourself and then standing at the correct distance from the nut that will give you the right torque. Mike Bees
My brake system holds around half a litre - maybe you meant that you'd need a couple of (half-litre) bottles? If I'm parsimonious (which I usually am) I can do a complete fill & bleed on one half litre bottle. Mike
Trevor Newman
how much brake fluid 🤔 i used half a litre on a new build
Myles
Sorry - I use brake-fluid like it was going out of fashion... I've no idea how you could fill and bleed effectively with just .5 litres though - there's still plenty of air coming out later with mine... Project Scope-Creep is live...
