Robster
Before you all tell me how dodgy these rather loud fuel pumps are, I have one fitted to my XFlow and so am stuck with it! It is not filtered, and I think I need to fit a filter between it and the tank. Can I fit a cheapy plastic one from Halfords..or is this going to restrict fuel flow at heavy throttle openings?? I have a regulator fitted further down the line if this makes any difference.
R2D2
You could run into problems with a restrictive filter, particularly on long straights taken a full throttle, which could cause engine damage. I wouldn't take the chance. I would change the regulator for a Filter King, which combines both functions. There are 3 sizes available, 65mm, 75mm, 85mm. The 65 and 85 have either glass or Aluminium bowls. The 75mm only has a glass bowl. If you have less than about 175bhp a 65mm should be OK. Casbar
I have a Filter King Reg between the pump and the carbs, and an inline filter between the tank and the pump. One of the plastic jobbies should be ok between the tank and the pump, as the Filter King will regulate the flow
stevefoster
A normal inline plastic one from Halfords will be fine. Pick one suitable for the pipe dia. If it's a square pump you may be ok. A round / cylindrical one? Be prepared for it to stop. A good whack may get it going again... for a while!
