If your a K series fan , then this deal from PTP looks quite interesting -not sure what exactly has been done to make it a "lower cost version " ???

New lower cost EVO 220 engine

PTP have been developing a lower cost version of its highly acclaimed EVO 220 engine for club racing activity. Last weekend the PTP/Trinity Yellow Caterham 7 attended the JCC Tom Rowe Centurian Challenge at Croft as part of the sign off/validation activity.

The car was present for test purposes and although running on standard Caterham road tyres the car achieved pole position beating the Ince and Kincella R500 into 2nd place. The field included Caterham 7 Vauxhalls, Superlights, Roadsports, Richard Smith in his Meggabussa and Simon Scuffham/Dave Walker in the QED Elise.

RACE 1. The car finished 3rd in class despite going into the gravel and losing 4 laps in the early stage of the race.

RACE 2. A much better race with 2nd in class and fastest lap but adverse weather conditions with the road tyres forced us to finish 9 laps early.

There will be two more sign off activities including a rigorous 2 day test at Nurburgring and following completion of these the Low Cost EVO will be released for sale.

The estimated price including the ECU and harness will be £7500 plus VAT

Watch this space for further updates soon!!

Every Caterham owner with a factory supplied K series (from 1.4 thru to 1.8 VHPD) has experience of PTP products as they are the official outlet of Rover engine products. (To lotus, caterham, morgan, TVR etc). They are nice people to deal with and have a good range of products. They usually develope the engines with people such as Janspeed.

  • 2 weeks later...
Was at Donnington on tuesday, their Caterham with this new engine was flying beating 2 R 500 on track, the only faster car was a GT porche. this is their low cost engine and has an even faster EVO, would love to see that in a Caterham!!!

Nothing they claim is untrue but it is a highly misleading slant on events.

By the way, these are the people who have told a certain individual that he didn't know what he was up to mapping engines and threatened to remove their advertising from a well-known magazine.

If the product is good and good value, they shouldn't have to try this hard.
