Steve W
Just picked up a quick release boss and new top column. Thought that ,just a quick job I'll pop into the garage and fit that. Two hours and lots of screaming later I still can't get the old top section of the column out ! Figured out that the old column has a couple of lugs on it for the steering lock so the bush at the top needs to come out. So how do I get this bush out. There are a couple of bumps in the outer rubber to locate it and you can't get to the top one ? Should I just resort to brute force and try and pull it out ? I thought about cutting the inner metal section and collaping the bush to pull it out. If I mess up the bush is it a caterham only part or any chance of picking one up at a local motor factors
ian balson
Steve, I resorted to brute force smile.gif The bush wasn't damaged so I could reuse it. Not sure if it's a Caterham part only. Regards Ian.
EFA
Steve. Put the wheel back on and use brute force. Make sure the keys are in and the steering lock is disengaged! Bafty Crastard
I split the steering column on the clamp above foot box, take the top section out through the engine bay. Now "persuade" the rubber bush in the dash to come out, in my case I needed a new bush. thumbsup.gif

SteveP
I had my QR wheel fitted by Caterham since as they put it "the only way to get the bush out is to destroy it" and I didn't fancy destroying something on my newly acquired car!
Steve W
Well brute force has won the day. Bush came out in one peace and Q/R wheel is now on. Thanks.
