Dry Sump Plate woes.....

Hmmmm.....I just knew it was going to be one of those days.....

 

A routine oil change finds one of the bolts that holds the blue dry sump plate in place has stripped the thread from the casing.

 

My first reaction is to helicoil it, so does some one know what size the bolt is and what size helicoil I need?

 

Failing that, any other solutions?

I vaguely remember having this problem myself a long time ago... My hazy recollection is that the tapped holes are somewhat deeper than bolts so I just used a longer bolt.

and potentially to not have the problem again why not try the hellier bottom plat that has a drain plug in it, so you never need to undo it again

I have no connection whatsoever with hellier, except being a satisfied customer for this part

Certainly the plate with a drain plug looks like a sensible idea!.

Yep M5 is my recollection too.

If I stripped mine, I'd just drill it and tap it M6. There appears to be plenty of "spare" material to work with in the bellhousing.

Well, for now the slightly longer bolt trick seems to have worked, I'll keep an eye on it though.

 

There is plenty of spare material there, so if it fails tapping to M6 sounds the right way to go.
