Head work for Kent 234 cam

I’m in the mood for a little x-flow fettling, currently it’s an absolutely standard 1600 but with 3D ignition, 4-1 exhaust and a lightened flywheel which I haven’t got around to fitting yet.

Does any head work need to be carried out before fitting a Kent 234 cam ?

I was thinking of first uprating the bottom end of the engine, new pocketed pistons, cam, lightened flywheel etc. and upgrading the head at a later stage.

Thanks, Mikey

Should be OK as you are pocketing the pistons (essential for clearance). I'm assuming you are getting a kit which includes valve springs. I would add steel rocker posts to the list.

It would be worth getting all the reciprocating and rotating parts balanced whilst you're getting this far in, makes for a very smooth engine. Got mine done at Oscelli, in Oxford, are they still going?

Thanks for the replies chaps, although I now seem to have a bit of an oil pressure problem (as in none) so might have upgrade – I mean repair – the engine sooner than I thought.

Nigel, Oscelli are still in Oxford, although in my MG days they had a reputation for being quite pricy.
