Richard Larkham
Having purchased a second hand set (big brakes) rear calipers, discs, ears and spacers for my 1987 de dion. I then had my bearing carriers machined to allow the clearance for the new discs. However when assembled and tourqed up the disc rubs on the ouside edge of the caliper slot. The hubs and bearing carriers are from 1993 car and worked fine with the standard rear caliper set up. Its as though the hub/spacer disc assebley needs to move in board about 3-4 mm Help
Rob Morris
try Len Unwin at Caterham factory. likewise are going to use the brakes on the road? If so how will you effect a handbrake!
Richard Larkham
I tried Len Unwin and he seemed unsure but suggested i try a new bearing carrier i'll let you know the outcome
Lawrence_Z
The ears are handed. Have you put them on the correct side? You are correct in saying that the completed assembly produces a narrower track. There should be a black alloy spacer between the hub and the disc. smile.gif Lawrence Hoy Scottish AO smile.gif
Richard Larkham
Thanks Lawrence we have checked and double checked the assembly and all is in the right order and way round. We really think that it's somthing to do with the bearing carrier casting/machining. Will try new race bearing carriers
Richard Larkham
Well having compared the standard rear hubs to the big brake hubs it appears that the machining si not only confined to the clearance for the disc/spacer to fit over bu t the back of the mounting face ( the face that contacts with the de dion ear has been skimmed to provide the 1 - 2mm movement inboard and hence the clearance between dis and caliper all solved many thanks to all
