Graeme Smith
Some of the press studs the the ali panel have pulling out, leaving a hole too big to take another rivet. Using a larger rivet prevents the press stud from working - the "rim" of the rivet is too big for the press stud. And the ali panelling won't knock back with a hammer to make the hole smaller... How to re-fit the press studs?
Chelspeed
Normal size pop rivet with a washer behind the panel over the pop rivet before you rivet it? The theory being the rivet will pull up tight behind the bigger hole against the back of the press stud.
Grubbster
Or use a bigger rivet but files the diameter of the head down a bit first (spin it in a drill). Graeme Smith
Yep, I'd considered that (with the washer), but how do you get the washer behind the ali panel - it's the panel below the door... Filing the head down - sort of tried that - maybe it'd work with some neater filing, although the rivet is still marginal on pulling through Edited by - Graeme Smith on 2 May 2005 21:15:
Myles
I'm baffled how you've managed this - the poppers on my tonneau etc. give up waaaay before troubling the body-jobs... Project Scope-Creep is live... Myles
...I mean that the female popper-cups break off from the heads and are left on the male body-poppers.. Project Scope-Creep is live... F355GTS
Graeme, in a worse case scenario you could fit a rivnut in the panel then use a c/s 4mm screw to hold on the popper been there seen it done it ! Mark
Myles
Mmm - I almost posted that suggestion - but as I found when drilling for poppers (bags of $ in that line of business... ) just underneath the sill-protector line, there is some chunky metal beneath the skin in certain places that won't even let you get a rivet in - let alone a rivnut... Worth trying IAEF. Project Scope-Creep is live... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
