R2D2
As you have discovered the cable anchor system for the RS2000 bellhousing is part of the cast aluminium sump fitted to the Pinto when installed in the Escort. There used to be a steel plate available in the 70/80s that could be bolted to the bellhousing so it covered the "gap" that is left when you fitted a steel sump to replace the alloy one that used to break on forest rally cars. I bought one of these plates in the eighties so I know thay did exist and it may be worth trying Rally Design or Burton's to see if they are still available. If not one of the other Escort Rally Dealers may be able to help. I still rally a Mk1 Escort RS2000 and if you get stuck let me know and I will ask around some of the boys. oilyhands
As Chris rightly points out the RS2000 sump is made with a cable anchor, when not using this you can easily make/weld on a bracing strap across the spare starter nose to anchor the cable. Just make sure the cable run true to the release arm or it will quickly break. Oily
Graham Perry
I have one of these on my car. It is made of a very thick piece of ali,(about 8mm) that just bridges the gap. I am pretty sure its a commercially available part. I would try Burtons as they may well do this plate Edited by - Graham Perry on 29 Oct 2001 07:56:
Paul Turner
I made stiff cardboard template that enabled me to cut the shape, mark the 3 fixing holes and the hole for the plastic sleve for the cable accurately. I then transfered this onto a piece of suitable steel plate (probably about 1.5mm thick). Its worked OK for about 6 years. Paul
