Englishmaninwales
I will be fitting new hydraulic cam followers on my K engine this coming week. How important is cam lube? Engine currently has fully synth oil and presumably they won't bed in properly with this alone. Thanks
Peter Carmichael
Kinda important. You also need to linish the followers to remove all surface markings left by the previous cams. The initial wear of new cams on unmatched followers can result in an expensive mess without cam lube.
Englishmaninwales
Thanks Peter. New followers, old cams. Still same advice?
Peter Carmichael
Same advice except the followers are obviously OK to start with. There can be some severe forces on the nose of the cam at cranking speeds. If they are concentrated on a non-bedded in contact surface, you get the rapid wear. elie boone
Avoid low rpm for the first 10min, i think you need as much as 3000rpm on the first start up to avoid any possible damage.
