needmorecash
I'm not very experienced with my new car. It's got one of them dry sumps things on it and I aint got a clue how much oil to stick in it 🙆🏻 The dipsticks got some xxxx's on it and at the moment the oil's not even touching the bottom marker If there's a more intelligent soul out there who has more experience than me in this matter I would greatly appreciate you advice. 😬 Hope to hear from you all soon

Jason Plato
11.75 " from the bottom of the belltank . Ignor the dipstick and make your own rod to poke down the hole Run the engine for a few minutes, then shut off and take the reading . If you do happen to overfill, the excess will be spat out into the catch tank C7 TOP Powered by Hellier Performance 😬 South Wales AO

Jason Plato
Where you live has no bearing on the oil level but it good you are coming to terms with it , you should be fine with 11.75" Edited by - Dave Jackson on 11 Apr 2005 10:56:
SteveP
Dave, 11.75" 😳, thought the level was nearer 10 to 10.5" ? (that's what I run my dry sump at anyhow) SteveP The Caterham Pages here
needmorecash
Thanks for your reply dave. 11.75" eh Err i presume I poke a ruler down to the bottom of the tank, then the oil level should be 11.75" higher ??. ie nearer the top of the ruler. Hope thats making sense . I can't acces me car at the mo so i'm trying to remember off hand
jerrypike
option B, as not all the tanks are the same add 500ml, go for blat, check level and catch tank: repeat until oil collects in catch tank- aim to run just below this level jerry
Gridgway
ah, my favourite. This question always has the answer fill it till it comes out the catch tank! I always say, no there's no reason that that is the right level! The measuring way is by far the best IMO (not an H in sight!). Graham

jerrypike
graham agreed-not the best, but a safe way to go for someone coming to terms with the dry sump and avoids pitfalls of measuring up/down and missing the tower ridges jerry
