John Vine
Could someone please advise me how to set the "automatic" cambelt tensioner on a 1999 (or later) 1.8K? It's the one with a 6mm offset Allen socket (to apply the tension) and a triangular spring with toothed "pointer" behind the tensioner (presumably to control the setting). Unfortunately, my Rover 200 Haynes manual stops at the 1998 model year, and describes only the older one (with the return spring). JV
oilyhands
There is a section in the Elise Workshop manual which will soon be on its way to you.. The details are below, all directions etc. are as viewed from the front of the engine. Fit the timing belt tensioner so that the index wire is positioned over the pillar bolt and that the tensioner lever is pointing to the 9 o'clock position, fit a new tensioner securing bolt and tighten so that is is just possible to move the tensioner lever. using a 6mm allen key rotate the tensioner anti-clockwise (viwed from front) until the centre of the indent on the tensioner pointer is aligned to the index wire bottom, ensure the pointer retaisn correct position while tightening the tensioner bolt to 25nm. oily
John Vine
Oily, many thanks indeed. Consider yourself promoted from star to superstar! I'm looking forward to getting the proper manuals! JV
