Casbar
My Seve is a 91 Live axle with discs on the front and drums on the rear. Its been regularly serviced, but I feel that the brakes could be better. James Whiting advised me to maybe upgrade the front brakes with his Alcon Brake Kit. I was wondering if anybody has fitted one of these kits, and what difference it made. Is it worth £500 plus. tks, Robert
Rob Morris
My car is a De-Dion Vauxhall and I thought that the standard brakes were very poor. I have since fitted the AP front units which are excellent but expensive! Hope that this helps
Casbar
Thanks, The Alcon kit is sold as an alternative to the AP kit and work out about 80 pounds cheaper. I think I'll give them a shot. Robert
Paul Mac
I had the Alcon brakes fitted about a month ago, and have found they make a hell of a difference. Definitely worth the investment.

StewartG
Why not try experimenting with better pads
Andrew Russell
I would agree. The Vauxhall Race cars used standard discs and calipers and so they should be up to some stick! I use M1122 Mintex Hillclimb compound pads and they are brilliant....altho I have to admit that I use AP 4pots as well, but only because they came with the car, as spec'd. Mike Bey
I have tried using the Caterham supplied Mintex pads on my VX HPC with standard brakes and have found that they make a bit of a difference, but not enough. Mike
Andrew Russell
The M1122 compound is a competition grade material and far softer than the 'standard' material, which is probably M1144. The M1122 work from cold and have excellent fade resistance altho' they do wear quite quickly and muck up the alloys with dust. Not cheap at about £50.00 an axle set but cheaper than a big brake conversion! Rob Morris
I considered trying diferent brake pads, but decided that by fitting the "big brake" I was attaining maximum braking and that they are an asset when I sell the car. P.S. does anybody want an HPC 3,500 miles?
