A strange thing happened on my way back...

.....from having a new exhaust fitted. 70 mile motorway trip each way

Outbound - temp approx 80, oil pressure 4 bar

3 hours later - new 4-2-1 fitted in place of standard short 4-1

return journey - temp approx 88 oil pressure just under 4 bar

As the fuel, ambient temperature and drive there and back were similar, and subsequent drives have shown the same consistent figures - the change is solely down to the exhaust - so what's happened - am I running lean where as before I was running too rich (plugs were sooty) ?

Car is a 1.8 Kseries with a ported head running (std valves) supersport cams but on a 1.4 mems as it was originally a 1.4. It seems to be running better than ever, and subsequent usage has shown temperature doesn't get much above 92 unless sitting in traffic - but should I be worried and what options have I got for corrective action - adjust the timing ?
