Jan Wulfsberg
Have mounted Big Red One, Guarded Switch and Immobiliser. Now I want to get rid of the Steering / Ignition Lock. How is it done? Red/Ali - Live Axle - X-flow
Ferrino
Mine (1989 LA) was just bolted to the tube which surrounds the upper steering column......
mark260463
If you can see the bolt heads then you are in Luck. If not thyen they have been sheared off. They should be fitted with "shear off" headed bolts so that if anyone tries to take them off, the heads sheer off. If the heads are still in place and you are lucky / careful you may be able to get them undone with a standard socket / ratchet. If not then it's a drill / angle grinder - I am told it's easier if you remove the heater blanking plate if you have to resort to the grinder / drill. Mark 20 years with no points then I buy this bloody thing
Myles
Yeah - I was lucky, my bolt-heads were still in place here If you can't find the bolt-heads as illustrated, it's grinder/whatever time... Jan Wulfsberg
Thanks all! I’m the unlucky kind, no bolt heads. The hard way then . . . . . . . . Red/Ali - Live Axle - X-flow

Support Team Shaun_E Posted March 27, 2005 Support Team Share Posted March 27, 2005 Drill a pilot hole in the centre of the bolt then use a nice big drill bit - about 8mm should do the trick. Takes about 5 minutes. Of course it was easier for me as I had the steering column sleeve off the car. Yellow SL #
Jan Wulfsberg
Thanks Shaun_E. Have the scuttle off so access should be ok. Waiting for a set of Brooklands, had a blat without the windscreen in the nice weather today, don’t think the windscreen will be put back on again. 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 Red/Ali - Live Axle - X-flow
Grim Reaper
I removed mine by using a hacksaw blade to cut the bolts on the line where the two halves join.
