caterhamnut
Any one know anything about this, as seen in the Demon Tweeks brochure, Caterham section - says it is 'new', for all 5 & 6 speed boxes. Mark Durrant
Angus IIRC Pete T had one when he had the Caterham 6 speed in his 7 so perhaps he can help Mark D Su77on Se7ens
I.Mupferit
Angus, why not carry out the Dave Andrews mod which costs about sixpence to achieve pretty much the same thing Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV. In the final week of gestation. SVA booked. 😬
caterhamnut
oooh - what is that then Brent? Big update! here 80,000miles in 3 years plus
Alex Wong1697456877
I bought one from SPC - It was made by quaife. Looks identical to the Caterham one. It worked well and did make the shift shorter and more direct feeling.
caterhamnut
And I thought the 'standard' version was pretty good Interested to hear about the Dave Andrews mod though... Big update! here 80,000miles in 3 years plus
Kevsta
Its on his site, looks really easy and most people have the required 'bits' (ie nuts) in the garage anyway...gonna be doing mine over the next few weeks if i get a spare hour!

I.Mupferit
I know a couple of guys who have carried out the DA mod and been very pleased with the end result. All you are seeking to do, really, is change the leverage point which is basically what the Quaiffe one does albeit more expensively ❗ Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV. In the final week of gestation. SVA booked. 😬
philwaters
Beat me to it Brent - I did it a couple of years ago, and I was very pleased. As Brent say, all you are doing is moving the pivot point so the lever moves less at the top for a given movement at the bottom end. Have a look here for when I did the same to Jason's lever. xflow7
Can't go wrong with an upgrade that requires a vice, a hammer, and a set of nuts. 😬

oldbutnotslow
Oo Oo Oo! Something else I can piddle about with before my engine returns! 😬 Grant Black and stone chip and currently not going ☹️ but waiting to me made better courtesy of Dr. Dave Andrews. philwaters
The height spacing is quite critical, otherwise you either won't be able to get reverse, or you'll be able to get it too easily (without having to push down). Make sure you test it before putting the tunnel all back together again. Unfortunately we didn't/couldn't when we did Jason's and it needs a little bit more height, probably just another washer - too late now without major agro. C7
Is the Dave Andrews mod doable in situ? I noticed Phil did Jasons on the bench in a vice.... Second thing, what is the actual reduction in lateral movement after this mod? Cheers Jim
oldbutnotslow
Jim . It looks too nice to be working and the roses need pruning so I will do mine today. I will measure before and after and repost. oldbutnotslow
The throw from 1st to 2nd on my 5 speed box is 4.5". I will be expecting this to reduce to 3.4" if we are reducing the ratio by 25% Grant Black and stone chip and currently not going ☹️ but waiting to me made better courtesy of Dr. Dave Andrews. Support Team Shaun_E Posted March 23, 2005 Support Team Share Posted March 23, 2005 Easy to get tunnel cover off - the only pain is that to get it over the handbrake lever you will probably need to slacken off the handbrake cable. Unscrew gear lever knob and remove the handbrake lever sleeve. Pull handbrake lever as near to vertical as possible. Lift tunnel cover off - it's not actually held on with anything (well mine wasn't so I presume others aren't either). Yellow SL #
thinfourth
i don't want mine any shorter. It causes enough problems already going from caterham to BMW missing gears and fishing around for non existent 6th Sod the heater wheres my shades
Bob Corb
I've just re-fitted my gearlever last night. Its a 2001 car and doesn't use the rubber ball lever. The shaft is pivoted in a steel spherical bearing which sits in a bespoke mount. The bearing is held on to the shaft by circlips and has a 7mm spacer above it. The mounting which bolts into the box has 3 circlip grooves, only two of which are used. In its "as supplied" form the bearing sits in the lower position (long shift). If you were to exchange the positions of the spherical bearing and the spacer on the shaft and then raise the circlips in the mounting to the upper two locations you would have the same effect as DVA's mod.... I was looking at the stick and thought that it wouldn't be possible to get the bearing off because of the kink in the shaft... I've just spoken to Quaife and they say that they are all assembled post bending so you can just strip and re-assemble it. Easy. (Apart from they can get a bit tight in the hole) BC Edited by - Bob Corb on 23 Mar 2005 12:41:
