Ol
My 1.4 supersport is reluctant to immediately restart after a long run, or when sitting in traffic. Temperature is between 90 and 95. All I get is a clicking solenoid. Last time this happened I thought I heard a quiet tick, just before it succeded in turning over (after the engine had been off for about 3mins). Any ideas? Is it the heat causing my starter motor some grief, and how do I fix it? Exhaust wrap or protect the starter motor somehow? Cheers, Ol
allegro
Sounds similar to what I am experiencing at the moment. I tried to start the engine from cold. It made all the right noises but would not attempt to crank over. Wiggled the wires into the starter motor and Hey Presto. Turns out that the solder joints on the starter motor are suspect and require re-soldering. Apparently a common fault. John Vine
I had exactly the same problem on my 1.8SS when new(ish). The soldered union gets very hot and soon forms a dry joint. The solution was to get a fly lead attached to the solenoid (Caterham did this under warranty). No problems since. Jv
