Support Team Shaun_E Posted March 15, 2005 Support Team Share Posted March 15, 2005 I need to fix some rivnuts to my car for attaching the wings and fitting fuseboxe, ECU, etc. RS do a couple of kits: 1. AVK Blind Threaded Insert Kit, part number 247-7581 2. Tapped Bush Fitting Clinchnut Kit, part number 292-530 Any ideas as to which is the best or correct one to use? What size rivnuts am I likely to need? Yellow SL #
Myles
I tend to use M5s and 6s - don't forget you need quite a large hole for whatever bolt you end up using... Project Scope-Creep is underway... CharlesElliott
Car Builder Solutions do a reasonable rivnut tool. Either here or this one here. I've got the cheaper one and it does the job.... Support Team Shaun_E Posted March 15, 2005 Author Support Team Share Posted March 15, 2005 The cheap one looks fine. Just one question though - are aluminium rivnuts good enough for the job? What do Caterham use? Yellow SL #
Petrolhead
I would think Ali will be fine R5 no 65 😬 I am STILL after a pair of half doors
CharlesElliott
Caterham use Ali for the wings and I've no reason to think they don't use Ali for everything else. Myles
I used splined steel ones from RS components - pretty bullet-proof. Project Scope-Creep is underway... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
Grim Reaper
I got a Riv Nut tool from HD Tools, often at the bike show and probably others too. Can't remember how much it was off the top of my head but the guy was very helpful. Try his website here
Myles
Grim - yep, that's the chap - I got one of his kits last year (or the year before)... The kit in a bubble-case (i.e. flimsy plastic) with a selection of nuts was about £56 - I found the invoice recently. Sounds quite expensive - but rivnuts ain't super-cheap, and it was very competitive for the actual tool (I checked the exact model with various other people). Works brilliantly - never given me any concern whatsoever (unlike the Halfrauds rivet tool..) Project Scope-Creep is underway... I.Mupferit
Agree with Myles, the splined RS Components AVK Rivnuts are very good. I buy them to use in my sheet metal factory as they have a far lower failure rate than the cheap and nasty type Caterham use. Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV. In the final week of gestation. SVA booked. 😬
