Mrs Mav
does the country struggle so much with a little downfall off snow Viv

Mrs Mav
We have no snow at all here in the North West, but people down the road (10 - 20 miles) do I can't understand why this country grinds to a halt Viv

simonbell
Yep........how do the Scandinavian countries cope? Maybe the UK has a higher population density which adds to the problem, coupled with people`s complete lack of ability to drive in poor conditions. There is no excuse for airports / rail network etc...........if Scandinavia can keep it together then surely be can as well. Normans_Ghost
It's down to money. If it snowed here as much as it did in Scandinavian countries then we would invest in gear that kept roads clear. It's cheaper to pay for the disruption than the equipment. Not condoning it, just explaining. rossybee
Don't the Scandies rely on winter / studded tyres too? They'd make a huge difference Sssssscottish SsssuperSsssnot! Ssssneakypeek! and Having fun!
KevSull Too
I think it's because our land is damp as well as cold. We get ice with a coating of snow. 😬You laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same. 😬

neil.cavanagh
as Norman said its because it doesn't happen often enough to: 1) give people experience in how to handle it 2) Make it financially worth while to have all the snow ploughs etc that countries with more extreme climates have. 3) make it worth people having their own snow tyres, chains etc etc. Frankly the UK handles the snow better than Dallas did when I was there and they had 1" of slush. The whole town was like a ghost town as everyone went home and refused to move until it had all melted. Ridiculous...
