Rear Tie bar & flat flooring

Mark Ferguson

Recommended Posts

Hi, i am in the process of tidying my car up underneath removing all the powder coat & re-painting for this coming year & have the rear suspension in bits, noticed the tie bar at the back (de-dion) is mounted in the upward position, a few inches lower is another hole with a thread (just retapped it as rusty) & assume that is for the tie bar as well. Is there any reason why i cant move it to the lower position & will it affect handling much, car was flat floored 18months ago, will it affect that ??? *thumbup*

Mark,

Do you just have a Radius arm or the Watts Link Assembly?

If you only have the radius arm, then it can be fitted in either position with the upper one being the recommended road setting and the lower one for race and track only, although I do know a number of racers that use the upper setting. In my opinion there is little point in using the lower mounting point on the road, it would just give a harsher ride for no noticeable handling benefit.

If you have the Watts Link Assembly then the lower mounting should not be used.

Regards, Andy.
