Leadership Team RogNeedham Posted February 24, 2005 Leadership Team Share Posted February 24, 2005 Having done most of the installation of the RKsteel 1800 xfow lump - it's dawned on me that I've only got a standard rev counter and by all accounts this engine revs a tad higher?! - any ideas about replacements that are correctly calibrated? Normans_Ghost
Rog, I used the Smiths one (caerbon or somthing like it). It's easy to wire, has 3 shift lights and is fully programmable from dash. In DT's cat. Norman Verona, 1989 BDR 220bhp, Mem No 2166, the full story here Ps, Mines calibrated to 12k. I've had a quick look. They come 8/10/12/14/16/18k rpm. £174 with shift light and 139 without (less 10%) (last years price) My first went wrong after a year. One call-sent back-new one NEXT day. Good service. Edited by - nverona on 24 Feb 2005 22:29:
rgrigsby
Oops forgot about the Roger, I ended with a very nice Stack ST200 but that's by no means the cheapest route to go!! Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
Jason Plato
Take it out or ignor it ? - I reckon we only need a sequential shift light on the dash
Terry Field
Rog Good thought! I may have the same problem. What limit are you using and how high does the rev counter go? Must check mine tonight Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
CHRIS CLARK
I like using my VDO gauges (nice green illumination etc etc). Trouble is I have the std gauge that shows about 7,400 rpm max. OK when it was a 1400 SS, but when it was changed to an 1800 200bhp + unit and the shift light was set at 7,700 (soft cut 7900 hard cut 8100) and the engine was run-in I floored it in first and the car went ballistic. Rev counter spun round so fast the needle stuck at the end of the scale. Had to slow down and tap the glass to get the needle to drop back!!! 😬
Leadership Team RogNeedham Posted February 25, 2005 Author Leadership Team Share Posted February 25, 2005 thanks Norm I'll take a look at DT. Terry the current tacho is the bog standard fitted with the supersprint. Chris Wheeler tells me I need 10k to be on the safe side Rog

Pierre Gillet
Chris, I have also a VDO 80 mm rev counter and the last value on the display is 7000 rpm . Do you think that it can go up to 7400 rpm ? Pierre

Gambo
I'll go with Dave J on this one. my rev counter only read up to 7000. my engine is limetted to 7500. I 've just set my last shift light to come on at 7200,change up and away we go. I never look at the rev counter when pressing on. 😬 She's finally Home!!!!!!!!!
