Harness installed - Remove inertia reel?

Installed a 5-pt harness the other day, but couldn't figure out what to do with the leftover bits from the inertia reel. I flipped it over and into the boot with all the clippy bits still attached just to get it out of the way. I couldn't seem to access the area wherein the reel itself resides without drilling out a bunch of rivets or jacking up the car. Do people usually remove the reel or do what I did and stow it away? I found nothing in the archives relating to this and my assembly guide doesn't address it either. Any ideas are appreciated.

When I bought my 7 it already had harnesses fitted but the inertia reel had not been removed. Seemed daft to me so I simply drilled out the rivets from the panel inside the rear wheel arch, unbolted the reels and then re-riveted the panel back on. Hardly a massive weight saving, but then again no point lugging around 2 redundant reels.
