wcsurfer
Installed a 5-pt harness the other day, but couldn't figure out what to do with the leftover bits from the inertia reel. I flipped it over and into the boot with all the clippy bits still attached just to get it out of the way. I couldn't seem to access the area wherein the reel itself resides without drilling out a bunch of rivets or jacking up the car. Do people usually remove the reel or do what I did and stow it away? I found nothing in the archives relating to this and my assembly guide doesn't address it either. Any ideas are appreciated.
Rob Walker
Drill out the rivets and remove the cover of the housing inthe rear wheel arch, the inertia reel can then be removed and stored or binned.
Drumster
When I bought my 7 it already had harnesses fitted but the inertia reel had not been removed. Seemed daft to me so I simply drilled out the rivets from the panel inside the rear wheel arch, unbolted the reels and then re-riveted the panel back on. Hardly a massive weight saving, but then again no point lugging around 2 redundant reels. Chris Alston 1800 Supersprint here New, improved version! Updated Jan '05 Drive it like you stole it!
