Brad Tipp
I've recently noticed a smell of Petrol after a fill up and a left hand turn. I'm not filling the tank anymore than I always have and I never noticed this before. I can't seem to find any leaks or evidence of them. Am I worrying senselessly? Or should I immediately install an extinguisher? T 1 PPB - Superlight "Well yes officer I'm not arguing, it's just that [insert excuse here]..." Peter Carmichael
K-series, right? You have fuel piddling out of the fuel tank breather. Run a long hose up your rollover bar and back down again. They all do that, sir.
Nick Green
But the breather on mine doesn't go to atmosphere; it goes to the charcoal cannister. Still get the smell, but no-one following me has ever mentioned seeing petrol coming out, so haven't worried particularly about it. Would be nice if it didn't smell though... robmar
Brad are you sure nothings coming out of your throttle bodies vapour wise? as this is a recent change to your motor? just a thought
Brad Tipp
Thanks for the replies, The vapour on mine should (?) go to the charcoal cannister, and I'll check that it still does. Rob, I did think it might be related to the throttle bodies, but can't think how! Also it only happens on a full tank. I think I'll try to check all the connections off the fuel tank again. robmar
yeah was a bit of double check, maybe your charcoal canister has a lot more than vapour in it... anyway would be happy to pull some donuts around the car park (left and right ones) just to double check I could smell the petrol for you, :-) rob PS you do not have to reply as I know the answer ;-)
Brad Tipp
I asked security but they seem to think that any "low flying" is currently banned in the car park :-( The local Tesco's responded by saying they have lots of Donuts available and we can come and get them whenever we want! Red SLR
Most people who run D2HTB's scrap the purge canister... I doubt you still have one, if you do I suspect the outlet pipe will just vent to the underside of the chassis rather than into the inlet manifold. CHRIS CLARK
I had this problem with a 'K' series tank vent that just went to atmosphere. Caterham supplied me with a small white plastic & ali one way 'valve' that allowed air in but not fluid (petrol) through it. Worked for me!
