ashaughnessy
Are the cheap Gunson compression testers you can buy in Halfords/etc. any good? How severe do your compression problems have to be before this device will detect them? Anthony
oilyhands
A compression tester is a simple enough device, if your compressions are uneven I think it would be pretty effective at picking it up. It's overall calibration might be innaccurate but its simple enough to back-to-back it against a known reliable one. Oily
Graham Sewell
As the gunson compression tester is designed to be one-man operation, it screws into the spark plug hole rather than being held be a second person. The problem that I found was the adapter would unscrew itself because of the weight of the gauge. This can be worrying because you think that you have a low compression on one cylinder. Used properly, this tool works well enough. Cheers, Graham
I.Mupferit
I have found the Gunson tester to be pretty accurate when all you really need to know is any difference between cylinders. Just remember to crank the engine over with the throttle open to get a good reading. Brent
