Englishmaninwales
1400ss to 1800ss upgrade but retaining original distributor/cams/ECU/flywheel trigger pattern. I wish to lower the rev limit/shift light to suit the 1800. I understand the 'non reprogrammable' nature of the Rover ECU , but is there anybody out there who is clever and has successfully hacked one of these, or does this sort of activity leave one with a dead ECU? Will eventually go down the path of a reprogrammable ECU/other engine upgrades in about 2 years, so until then if the Rover ECU is 'tamperproof', is my short term solution only to buy an after market limiter/shift combination,e.g. Omex speed system, or separate limiters and shift lights from Armtech or Aces? If so, any recommendations? Thanks Malcolm
Casbar
Can't help with the Rover Mems question, my R160 has a MBE ECU. I have found that the shift light in the dash is next to useless, so I have just fitted a Aces shift light system.
Area Representative Richard Price Posted January 29, 2005 Area Representative Share Posted January 29, 2005 Malcolm, I don't think you'll find anyone to hack into the MEMS. Why do you wish to change the rev limit?? I had a look at the "Omex Shift Light Sequential" at the autosport show - it looks quite good and cheaper than the "aces sureshift" benchmark. I like the idea of the sequential lamp rather than a single lamp. Being tight, I'm experimenting with a home made setup at the moment!
Englishmaninwales
Richard The 1400 rev limit is preset to 7600, shift light a nanosecond before (? 7400). Oily advised me to set the 1800 rev limit to around 7000. Trust you to make your own!!  😬 Malcolm
