jackb_ms
I have changed my tyre from Michelin Pilots 205/45 R16 83V to Faulken 205/50 R16 87V I would like to know the meaning of 83 and 87, is it the compound type? Graham Perry
Its the load index that says the weight of the car that can use the tyre. Pretty meaningless number on the seven I suspect, although it might help indicate the sidewall thickness of the tyre, but I am not sure of that. I did have a table of load indices, I will see if I can find it.
Dickie Normuss
From a tyre manufacturer's site Sidewall Markings 185/60 R 14 82 V 185 - Nominal section width expressed in millimeters. 60 - Ratio between nominal section Height and nominal section width. In practice this indicates the series of the tyre. R - Radial construction tyre. 14 - Rim diameter, expressed in inches. 82 - Load index. Indicates the load carrying capacity per wheel. V -Speed symbol. Tyre's maximum speed. Seek forgiveness, not permission. Rules are for the interpretation of wise men and the obedience of fools. jackb_ms
Does it means the Faulken have a better or worse load index than the Pilots? Jack Emily, The Very Yellow
