Englishmaninwales
Two questions, 1800 K: 1.Foam block supplied with the Apollo for fitting in the cam cover. Does this serve any purpose or may I throw it away before it falls to bits? 2.Sump foam. Search of the archives indicates some people have suffered significant surge without the foam even with an apollo fitted. What is the general opinion/experience? Trevor Newman
the foam in the sump stops surge the appollo is an air separator as highly revved K engines have a tendancy to mix air in the oil personally i would buy some new foam unless its only road use  dont know about the cam foam
oilyhands
From what I can see the foam isn't that much larger than the ally sheet that retains it , so it may be of questionable benefit. The anti-surge/windage benefits may be outweighed by the tendency for the foam to break up and clog the oil pick-up. The faom in the cam cover is just a baffle for the Apollo outlet. Just make sure it doesn't get trapped under the cam cover and disrupt the gasket. Oily
Englishmaninwales
Trevor I'm aware what the sump foam (and apollo)is supposed to do. I'm asking for people's experience without the foam, as I suspect, as does Oily, that it's a waste of time. malcolm
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 19, 2005 Leadership Team Share Posted January 19, 2005 Whatever your decision, I may have a spare sump foam if you need it. Won't be needed with a d/s. Stu.
