MJG
I am about to change pads to EBC Green Stuffs and had a couple of questions. I have the standard rears and the uprated AP Fronts from Caterham. 1. Which would be the best brake fluid (Dot 4 or 5 or something else) 2. Does anyone know where I can get replacement disks for the front for a reasonable amount (Caterham price was £280 for a pair)
Fast Westie
MJG Try Rally Design for the disks, about £15 each DOT 4 seems to be OK The car in front is a Westfie1d wink.gif
oilyhands
Fast westie is spot on for the disks www.raldes.co.uk.. DOT5 is silicone based fluid (and purple in colour) , so dont try to use it in a system that has previously used mineral/glycol based fluids (DOT3,DOT4 & DOT5.1). You would need to strip the system and replace all the rubbers / seals to use DOT5. DOT5.1 however is mineral based and can be used in a system which has previously used DOT3 or DOT4 fluids, just flush the old fluid out first with DOT5.1 before filling or there is a slight risk of crystal formation in the fluid. Pierre Gillet
Well I am using a generic DOT 5 ( Hypermarket CARREFOUR) which is white and can be mixed with other brake fluids. Is is also not really expensive. It is probably a DOT 5.1, althought it is labelled DOT5. Anyway, silicone-based brake fluids are pretty expensive. Mike Bees
The AP big front brake kit uses expensive vented discs. If these are available at 15ukp a pop from raldes then I'll take a stack! Mike
oilyhands
I expect the vented ones are a *bit* more, the big vented ones on mine were £28 per disk from Rally Design. Still a lot cheaper than £140 a pop :-) Oily

Alex Wong1697456877
MJG, I'm not sure I'd recommend Green Stuff pads. For me, they wore far too quickly and seemed to deteriorate significantly in braking ability before they were half worn. When they were new though, they were fantastic. The Red Stuff pads I'm using now seem better but do need a bit of warming up to be at their best. I notice that EBC are claiming a new compound (v4) for Green stuff and these may be better. I'd consider Mintex 1144's as a possible alternative. They are tried and tested. If you can stretch to it, I've heard great things about Pagid RS4-2 pads. They are expensive though. Alex Wong1697456877
Best brake fluid? I had problems with keeping DOT4 dry and fade free. Castrol SRF solved all my brake fluid problems. This is also expensive stuff though.
MJG
The green stuffs going on are V4 so we'll see how they go. Seems to be a mixed and non conclusive view on the discs. Where can I get discs that will : 1. Fit (without modification) 2. Be as good if not better than the existing ones 3. Be less than the £140 Somebody must have looked into this in detail recently. oilyhands
Perhaps I should make it plainer.. try www.raldes.co.uk, if they have the correct disks at a good price then you will have a positive conclusion, if they don't you will have a negative conclusion, it only requires a look at the website and the price of a 'phone call.
