masha
I bought my used 1.6k based car a few weeks ago and only got one plip key for the alarm. I've since been to Rover's who inform me the plip key is £55 + £20 to code it + VAT! Can anyone improve on the price of this - is there anywhere that supplies/recodes these cheaper? Couldn't I get a used plip key from a scrap dealer and get it recoded cheaper - would this work? (sorry I don't know much about the electronics of these alarms/immobs.) Also what happens if I loose my last remaining key or the plip breaks in the mean time - how would I start the car - is there an easy way to disarm the circuit in such a scenario when stranded without a working plip? CHRIS CLARK
Commiserations. I know how you feel! I have only one Vecta 'key'. Trouble is you can't get 'em any more (for any price!!!). I'd have one at the Rover going rate just for the piece of mind (which piece?)
buroz
Take it to your local motor factors (A1 motor stores are the best). They'll open it and get the number from inside and then order you one. Should only take a few days to arrive and cost a whole heap less. (I know as my parents own such a store and I had to work in it for many years during school/uni holidays). Masha, where do ya live.

masha
Thanks for the responses so far. A few things to try: motor factors, scrap dealers (for a plip) and then investigate getting it re-coded). btw Masha lives down in the land of Mr C Clark (Canterbury, Kent) - nice, but could use more decent A-Roads, coastal tours are nice though
