Peter Carmichael
Anybody know the spec for one of these and where I can get one in London this afternoon? I've tried a Rover dealer and there were hurdles to get over...
Peter Carmichael
Thank you Roger King, Oilyhands and Tor Atle. The answer is an E12 Torx socket from Halfords.

Peter Carmichael
The head bolts go all the way through the engine to a web beneath the crankcase. They are through bolts and they tension the entire structure and the load on them deforms the bottom end bearing housings into a perfect round shape. So strictly speaking they are not *head bolts* at all; they hold the head on but they do a whole lot more besides. The socket is the tool you buy to undo them and do them up. rynicolson
Peter, I will sleep so much better knowing what you were on about... I always have referred to head bolts as such so now shall have great delight in upstaging my more mechanically knowledgable friends!
Roger King
Peter, After you rang me I was wondering why you didn't know the spec of the required socket. Then I remembered; your engine doesn't use through bolts - it's got ruddy great studs that look like some of the stronger parts from the Forth bridge!
