simonbell Posted December 30, 2004 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Just thinking about this...........our freezer has all sorts of alarms on it for temp etc but what you really need is a great big siren to go off when the power cuts......it would need some kind of emergency battery pack to power said siren........seems sensible and doable especially on a chest freezer so why don`t they have them? Nah, what you want to do (and I've forgotten precisely how to do it...) is to set up a large transformer thing and some light-bulbs (or whatever - but bulbs are traditional). The transformer gets powered by the fridge and consumes b*gger all power and is connected to the bulbs (which do...). When the power goes off, the electro-magnetic field dies and generates 'back EMF' - sufficient to blow the bulbs in a fairly spectacular way.
