Normans_Ghost
Eric I feel the same, add to your list the goons quartet. However, I suspect that every generation has their own comedy. My parents just didn't understand the goons. I don't understand the things my kids laugh at. Eric McLoughlin
True. There are quite a few modern comedians who are genuinely funny. I have a fondness for a lot of the new "Irish" comtingent (Ardal O'Hanlon, Dylan Moran, Ed Byrne etc) who seem to have a rather "sideways" view of life in general. The previous generation of comedians all had their roots in 1940s and 1950s stage variety. The modern generation of the 1980s onwards have their roots in stand-up comedy clubs. I would put forward the idea that Billy Connolly was the prototype of this new era.
