At the time, it sounded like it was rattling itself loose! the replacement was a 4:1 ford standard unit. i replaced the a frame bushes recently but am hearing the same noises again from the diff! help?? STEVE GILBERT Posted September 3, 2001 Share Posted September 3, 2001 Is the Drive Flange loose?, if so it will chatter on the splines. This happened on my last car with an English Axle. You can tighten it to about 25lbft without fear of collapsing the crush tube and affecting preload but best to do it out of the car so you can measure the backlash as you go. Why didnt you replace the 3.54-1 with the same ratio? are they n/a (so is the one in my garage worth anything!) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
