Mark Piper
The standard Caterham system uses the bell housing as the oil reservior, so I am led to believe. Does anyone know whether a dry sump system from a 5 speed car fit a 6 speed as a straight bolt-on coversion?
Support Team Shaun_E Posted November 18, 2004 Support Team Share Posted November 18, 2004 Mark, I don't know for sure, but Caterham only offer one dry sump kit for the K-series (there is a separate kit for Vauxhall and another for Crossflow) so I think it is the engine that determines the bell housing rather than the gearbox. This is futher reinforced by the fact that they offer a lightweight ali bellhousing (for wet sump as an upgrade) that is independent of gearbox. I am sure that the Caterham 6 speed is derived from the ford type 9 and therefore they used the same mounting pattern. Shaun Yellow SL #

Mark Piper
Thanks Steve, I've already got a Pace on my current 6 speed car and very nice it is too - but I may be able to get a Caterham system for a good price for my next car, but that assumes that it will fit a 6 speed 'box (the new car is a VX but fitted with a 6 speed 'box y'see)
Rob Walker
As the 5&6 speed installations use the same bellhousing the dry sump belltank will fit either as a straight fit.
Wahey
I've just changed a 5 speed gbox for a 6 spd and the car has a dry sump and no problem.
