Big Brother
Roger AFAIK there is no "legal" limit for roadcars - but I think they have to be fitted with an exhaust "similar" to the original. Try a search, for a post a little while back titled "LOUD CARS" Steve cool.gifScream...if you want to go faster!!!id=limegreen> cool.gif
Jason Plato
I think previous threads have concluded that the MOT / police just consider "excessive" noise . I don't care what you play .........just play it LOUD !!! Dave
Asklepios
Do m/cycles not have to have silencers with certain noise restrictions. Is there not an "E" no. which is stamped on the can? Thus the sale of "not road legal" and "racing only"devices.
captain chaos
From memory the bike spec is 95db. Don't quote me on this but I seem to remember this figure being mentioned in my bike days.
Mike Bees
There is a limit that has to be passed for Type Approval, and it's quite low. Chris Rees' book mentions is in the context of Caterham getting Type Approval for the 7 in the early nineties. The test is performed by driving the car past a sound meter at a certain speed (at full throttle IIRC), the exact figures escape me but it was *something* like 74db and the 7 registered *something* like 72db rolling past with the engine switched off!
