frankyknuckles
I have removed the front engine lifting eye (obviously), but can I remove the rear one? (1.8 K series) I removed it the other day but it also seems to double as a cover plate for something (is it the cam bearing?). The eye itself is restricting the coolant hose route, ideally I would like to perinantley remove the plate/eye. Is this a good or bad idea? www.R300.net
Jason Plato
yes , you can remove the rear one . I would suggest you then make a suitable plate to prevent crap getting in the cam seals area . Frying Pan
Dave Caterham told me they route the coolant pipe through the eye, but the corners of the plate are a bit sharp for my liking I removed mine and got a cover plate from Caterham to cover it. It's a standard Rover part, so should be easy to get hold of. Might have the number at home somewhere Guy See some pictures of the build here. 4000 miles completed! Frying Pan
Dave Just found it in an old post of mine - MG Rover part number is LDL10001 Guy See some pictures of the build here. 4000 miles completed!
Tony C
It's very soft material. I removed mine, after marking where it blended with the engine, cut-off the excess and filed it smooth - job done 😬
Ron_F
Franky, I routed the coolant pipe through the eye. However, I too thought the edge a bit sharp so used a short piece of the same pipe, split down the length and slid over through the metal eye as protection. Fits very neatly. cheers Ron
charlie_pank
If it looks a bit sharp why not file it down?

frankyknuckles
thanks. In all my exitement of finally having all the samco hoses to fit, I just routed it through this eye (I had done this previously with normal hoses). I might use a bit of SVA trim inside the eye for extra protection www.R300.net
