Jenson Button
I recently asked on here what tyre size I should be using for my 1.6 Superlight and was told 175/55 R13 (here). I've decided (I think!) on some A048R's only they don't appear to come in that size!!! I can go for either 175/60 R13 or 175/50 R13 - which would be better? Alternatively I could go for an Avon CR-500 which I believe does come in 175/55 R13??
david nelson
The size 175/55/13 are for Avons, for Yoko it will be 185/60/13 David Edited by - David Nelson on 15 Nov 2004 19:21:
Mark Gregory
CT: The Supers & Megas race cars will be using 185/60 R13 A048Rs next season, if that's any help?
Jenson Button
Thanks guys. What sort of difference will the extra 5mm make? How far out will the gearing be? Is it noticeable?

Jenson Button
OK, OK I'm confused !! Clearly the best available profile size is 60. But what are the benefits / disadvantages of going for 175/60 R13 or 185/60R13? Both will fit so which do I go for? 🤔
Support Team Shaun_E Posted November 15, 2004 Support Team Share Posted November 15, 2004 The normal Caterham size in Yokohama tyres (A021R, A032R and A048R) is 185/60. When Caterham introduced the Avon CR500 it was in a 175 but the actual width of the tread is similar to a 185 Yoko. So if you want Yoko's then get 185/60 but if you decide to go for Avon CR500 (more expensive) then you will have to get 175/55 as that is the size they come in. I can't think of anyone who runs Yokos narrower than 185. Yellow SL #
Myles
Most tyre manufacturers have a list of the rolling diameters somewhere on their sites - these will give you a good indication of how much gearing etc. will change.
