Phil Bishop
An article in this month's CSMA magazine suggests that tyre rubber is degraded by contact with detergent. I have previously tried to save the pennies by taking the wheels off my car and giving them a right old scrub with a bucket of warm water and washing up liquid. The brake dust comes off the rims a treat but is it true that this has been damaging the integrity of the rubber?
Mick Day
Tyre rubber is also degraded by driving but we don't stop doing that ❗ I've been washing my cars & tyres with detergents of one sort or another for 30 years & haven't noticed any problems. However if new evidence based research is available............. I'd like to see the evidence first as articles are often just opinion.
