The RAF and Royal Navy were extremely lukewarm about the aircraft (I'm talking 1963/64 here). It was only when more ambitious RAF and RN projects (TSR2, the Navy's Super Carrier) were cancelled in 1965/66 that they began to appreciate the usefullness of a plane like the Harrier. There would have been no Series II Harrier at all if it had not been for the US and McDonnell Douglas. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We watched BB & F rather than TG 'cos I expressed a preference and GTD (bless 'im) went along with my choice.
