MikeW
I always used the Halfords 5W40 fully synthetic MikeW Mega Grad
oilman
If you read my posts, you will learn about the differences in oils labelled synthetic. IMHO you should be using a good "proper" synthetic 5w-40 and I would recommend Silkolene PRO S 5w-40 or Motul 300V 5w-40. Both these products are ester based synthetics. You can alway email me for a price list. Cheers Simon
wonkey eyed barmaid
check the chassis plate - should say on there. likely comma (something) 10w40. ive been using castrol gtx magnatex 10w40 "synthetic" for 2 years (16000miles) without problems. but starting to take notice of oilmans advise, and learning a bit more about oil... oilman - have you any experience of the CARLUBE range, as used by lotus motorsport and TVR? oilman
Carlube erm yes. Would rather not say here other than they are not true synthetic oils and are to be honest pretty average......ahhh the power of marketing! Cheers Simon PS. The same goes for Comma. Paul Wiley
Simon, Does the 300V range have detergents for road use and are they a good choice for cold damp winter conditions.
oilman
Yes, they are designed for road cars as well. Cheers Simon
wonkey eyed barmaid
@oilman, kinda thought that might be the case. 'spose my chosen Castrol GTX Magnatex is muck too.....? (thats not meant to sound cheeky) i can get it REALLY cheap from a local supply, and the engine is a basic 1600 8v from 15 years ago... do I NEED to get a proper fully synthetic, or will it do the job? oilman
It's not muck but it's basic. If you are looking for better protection which of course costs more then go the synthetic route but it's your choice at the end of the day. You can always email for a pricelist and decide which way to go on a cost/benefit analysis. Cheers Simon
