Sheds Moderator
BTTT, give it another try before I draw up a better list of what I actually have and whether it needs to go.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted September 24, 2004 Leadership Team Share Posted September 24, 2004 1.4 race solid followers are the same as the vhpd items in the SLR

Sheds Moderator
Thanks for that Stu, I thought they were. OK then gentlemen, solid followers, let's be having you, get rid of those hydraulic tappets for a proper top end capable of a few revs! I'm told the price is about the going rate... Loom too, if someone were building a k series 7esque...perhaps I am on the wrong forum. BTTT...

tiptree
Are the solid followers an easy fit anyone know please? Surely they weren't standard for the 1.4ss?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted September 28, 2004 Leadership Team Share Posted September 28, 2004 The solid followers were fitted to 1.4SS racers - the same followers were then later used in the vhpd engines (SLRs). Easy enough to fit, but you do need to remove the cam carrier and cams (obviously) and being solid they need shimming. Stu.
fordy
i thought standard supersport cams where for hydraulic tappets and the cam profile for solid tappets is different. I could be wrong though.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted September 29, 2004 Leadership Team Share Posted September 29, 2004 Fordy, as I understand it you can use solids with any cam profile, but hydraulics must have a specific profile. I'm currently running my SS (ex-solid tappet, ex-racer) cams with hydraulics and no issues whatsoever. I suspect that with the SS cam being so mild anyway there is infact only one version, suitable for both. Solids are out of the car awaiting a further project 😬 Stu.
