Bare
I've been seriously studying them too.. seeing as my pesky Integra R type motor reverse rotates. Neighbour just bought a nice Turbo 2 RX7.. twin sequential turbos.. however that works.. for Beer money. Mazda (ford :-) are good because almost all parts interchange ie: Miata (MX3) Torsen Equipped Limited slip Differentials "fit ", RX7 rear ends.. Turbo RX7 trans boxes have earned a serious reuptation for durability, and the quicker/easier gearchange of a Miata can be easily bolted in. Duratecs also (reputedly) bolt onto both Mazda Boxes (RX & Miata). Axles are in the 4:1 range, Discs are Massive. Rotary units are Light, approx 250 lbs ready to run, these are smooth and reasonably powerfull.. when balanced 15k RPMS are possible (if Silly) while 8500 can be used for hours on end on an OEM unit. Internals are Billet!. Should note that the Rotary's exhaust exits on the Right side of the engine.. and it can be surprisingly /excessively (2 stroke thru a Megaphone is a fair Analogy) loud..so Exhaust design/fitment is Critical... Little esle is tho :-) Suggest doing 'Searches' on RX7's.. lotsa "go Faster" info out there.
paul w
This makes for some interesting reading! http://www.simplesevens.org/gallagher/index.html Make sure you click on the 'next' at the bottom of the page, it is quite a long story of the development of probably the most famous rotary seven. Bill Shurvinton
Who me? Busy building ignitions. Cheap, lighter than Vx, heavier than K. Need removable engine bay braces to get them in. In a Caterham end up pretty much unsaleable, as Jim Brooks found out. In canoes it really doesn't matter,as mine is worth sod all due to lack of heritage and being purple. No 3 Cat
I have a Mazda RX7 powered seven, not built myself but am happy to answer questions or to make the car available to have a look round. It takes a while to get used to having the exhaust on the driver's side!!! Mark
