Red SLR
On Saturday my Father in law had a go in my 7 at Elvington. He, has no track experiance so he did about 20 laps with me and then I let him out on his own in the novice section. He did ok, but as he returned to the pits he drove over a runway lighting pod. On closer inspection the 4 inch high metal pod had taken a very large chunk out of the sump. Not too bad I thought, the sump was not leaking. Then I looked at the car closer. As he was doing about 15 - 20 mph when he hit it the force has pushed the whole engine up amd back by about 2 inches. It has now returned , i think, to the correct position. The exhaust has pushed the side skin up and the round hole is now egg shaped. Where should I take the car to be fixed? What damage has it done to push the engine up this far? Could it have damaged the chassis, or anything further down the transmission? How much is a new sump? Simon. (very hacked off!) X777CAT
EFA
Simon, Arch can put the whole chassis on a jig to determine if its bent. They are also very trick at straigtening bits and doing high quality repairs. julians
Unlucky. The engine is mounted via some rubbers to the chassis, and you would be surprised just how much give these have, so hopefully witha bit of luck, you wont have done any damage apart from a new set of rubbers (35 quid from caterham and an hour to fit). TorAtle
The new rubbers have integral engine restraints, check out Caterhams online store (engine/gearbox).
tony isherwood
I would hazard a guess, knowing how robust these little cars are that once the engine had moved to its limit the car just lifted. Apart from the obvious marks, there may be little to worry about. (Just trying to put a brighter side on things ;o) TonyIsh
Red SLR
I have been onto Caterham and John Noble. The sump will be about 220ukp plus VAT. John wants the car for a week to give it a good lookover, and its 2nd service. Any ideas how to get the side skin fixed? X777CAT
