Clive, if you really mean just a light scratch, it can be polished out, if it extends more than say a quater of the depth of the ally then polishing it out will seriously weaken the area. It is a case of progressively lighter wet & dry abrasive paper, best used wet, start with 180grade, work through 360, and 600 grade, finish off with a good polish with T cut. Advice is subjective, other people may suggest other grades of abrasive and other cutting compounds. The above will work for light scratches, will take time and elbowgrease.
