Rowly
Folks, there I am blatting along in my 1990 1600 x flow sprint when suddenly the engine stops and immediately starts. I have described it like this as it doesn't seem to be a single misfire. It feels more like the feeling of when you are running out of petrol. I am not. I wondered wether it was damp in something after/during the rain but she has dried out and the problem persists. One thing I have noticed is that the rev counter drops immediately (so Im thinking electric). I have recently begun to experience a drop in revs when pulling up to a halt and am awaiting an ignition change to one of Bill Shurvintons jobs. Could these symptoms be down to my coil failing? Any useful ideas? Cheers Rowly Owner of *thumbup*The Wombat L7OC member 27,000 so far
Joe 90
Probably electrics. Does it cough lots when it restarts, having sucked in a load of unburnt petrol in the mean time? Rowly
Oliver, no it just dies whilst running for a beat and then goes fine. I have no problems at all on startup.
Taran Las
I had a similar problem which turned out to be the Battery Cut off Switch. Turned it off then on - OK for a few miles and it would happen again. replaced switch - now OK. Philip. D. Owen
Nigel Riches
Check the security of the battery connections, and the earth terminal from the engine to the battery negative post, a loose connection on the igniton switch could also cause you problem, happy hunting Nigel. 1982. 5 speed, clamshells. strongy
I have also had a similar problem on my xflow, traced it to the battery cut out switch. Replaced it and has been fine ever since cheers Strongy - trying my best to convince 'er indoors that there's no need to sell it
MikeW
Could well be the cut off switch. Move it about a bit and see if you can get the engine to die.If it does you may get away with putting a small washer behind the red key. Had something similar on my 1600 VX and it turned out to be the ECU mounted on the bulkhead under the steeering wheel that had not been pushed fully home. Rowly
Sorry, I don't have a cut off switch. When I get a chance I will check the battery connections....
