pete east
I posted a few days ago regarding my alternator, which died on the Carrotland Fish and Chip run on Saturday night. Fortunately there was enough power in the battery to start the car at Southwold and run the car (& headlights for the last few miles) for the journey home. The battery was as flat as a pancake after though, and wouldnt even engage the starter let alone crank the engine. I have heard tell that if a larger alternator pulley is used this slows down the Alt rpm (and may get the altenator a bit closer to the block and farther from the front exhaust header) Does anyone know if larger diameter alt pullies are available for a Lucas xflow alternator and if so from where? as allways any comments would be welcome. Regards Pete.
NickW
What you need is a place that re-conns alternators, they normall have a mount of old pullys. One problem you might have is that later pullys are a 17mm diameter hole where as yours will be a 15mm hole. Burtons might do some pullys as well. Regards. Nick. Joe 90
Despite the allegations, I don't believe high RPM kills alternators. It's heat that does them in, so moving them closer to the block may not be an improvement. SEP field working, not spotted in 102,200 miles. pete east
Thank you all for your replies - much appreciated.. Pete thanks for the offer of the alternator but I have already sorted one out from Lucas in Chelmsford. As with Steves offer of an alternator I am tempted to get an extra one as a standby unit which I may do if im feeling a bit flush after paying for this years hols but again the offer/s are much appreciated and reinforce the feeling of being in such an excellent car club. - Regards Pete.
