Richard_E
Hi, some technical advice needed. I am having trouble with the temperature of a 1.6 SS k-series. If I let it ideal them the temperature rises to 85-90 C but as soon as I drive it the temperature drops to between 40-60 C depending on the outside temperature. Could the problem be the thermostat or some thing more sinister like a blown head gasket?
Andrew Dent
Been there, seen that, changed the thermostat. Very easy, there is a thread started by Simon Scott with instructions. I found that there had never been a thermostat in my cooling system. Hope this helps Andrew
stevefoster
Sounds like a thermostat if nothing else has changed. I would not think it is an air lock as that would give overheating all the time. Does the fan come on and have any effect while standing still and getting up to 95 dec C?
R2D2
I wouldn't imagine it could be a head gasket. I would suspect the temperature sender being non-linear, which is quite common.
Richard_E
Hi Folks, Thanks for the replies so far. For more info I have just let the car tick over and the fan kicks in at about 95 C on the guage and bring the engine temp down to around 85 before stopping. Should I change the thermostat?, and for what temperature rating? Edited by - Richard_E on 12 Jul 2001 13:56:
