Englishmaninwales
Many warnings seem to exist about using lightened cast iron rather than EN 24 or EN 40 forged steel. I presume Caterham's 1400 lightweight is of the correct steel and safe for an 1800 application. Any advice? Also what is the best clutch assembly? Tony Whitley
I hope it is, I have one in mine. I think they're the same except that the 1400 has a different pattern for the crankshaft sensor and will only work with a 1400 MEMS or programmable unit like an Emerald M1 7 SMW 1.4-now-1.8K Mem.No. 10376
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted August 10, 2004 Leadership Team Share Posted August 10, 2004 Malcolm - buy the AP clutch from Caterham - IIRC around £250 for cover and pressure plate. A slightly cheaper alternative is the Helix version (available from MardiGras Motorsport) - both AP and Helix parts are usually interchangeable - it's possible to use the AP Caterham pressure plate with the Helix cover. The AP Caterham plate is a special for Caterham with heavy duty springs for race applications - you cannot buy it direct from AP. Stu.
